Moisture Analysis

Moisture Analysis

Moisture affects the processibility, shelf life, usability and quality of many products such as pharmaceutical substances, chemicals, plastics and foods. Information about and determination of moisture content is therefore very important.

METTLER TOLEDO’s high-quality moisture analysers and tools for instrument performance verification such as SmartCal, offers a complete moisture solution to ensure optimal moisture determination in quality control and in-process control applications.

A moisture analyser is often also called moisture balance or moisture meter. It consists of a weighing unit and a heating unit (infrared technology) and is used to determine the moisture content of a sample with the loss on drying principle.

Today many customers use a moisture analyser because they want to analyse the moisture content using a much faster method. Moisture content determination in food is of particular importance as the moisture content influences the quality and shelf life of a product.

Applications: METTLER TOLEDO, Laboratory Weighing, Moisture Analysis, Moisture Balances, Moisture Analysers, SmartCal Test Substances

Efficient moisture content analysis

Moisture analysers determine sample moisture content. They consist of a balance unit and an infrared heating unit that uses the loss on drying method of determination. The initial sample weight is recorded, then a halogen or other infrared radiator heats and dries the sample while its change in weight is continuously recorded. Once the final dry weight is reached, the moisture content result is calculated based on the total loss in weight.

METTLER TOLEDO moisture analysers feature:

  • Precise Temperature Control: Infrared and halogen lamp heating technology ensures even heat distribution throughout the sample, delivering fast reaction times for reliable, repeatable results.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Quick access to methods with one click and an on-screen user guide assists the operator at each step, helping to avoid errors.
  • Robust Construction: The durable instrument construction and built-in tests ensure consistent performance.
